Valemount – Employees at the Valemount Forest Products mill in Valemount have been handed their final layoff notices according to information obtained by Opinion250.

The company had been purchased by Carrier Lumber in Prince George a few years ago and had been in moth balls for some time as they waited for improved lumber markets.

While there has been no official comment as yet from Carrier lumber, workers in Valemount are now saying that the mill is being shut down indefinitely.

The mill had employed four to five employees at the time it went into temporary shutdown, they now will be given permanent lay off notices.

hopefully the ski hill compensates for the loss of work from the mill
DPJ: You are joking right? How can seasonal positions replace full time year round employment?
What ski hill? The scheisters who promised that for years have now pulled out as well...that was back in June or July.

Valemount's last hope hinges on some Edmonton woman's vision to build a bunch of luxury condos and townhouses on the main drag, for wealthy retirees. Good luck getting financing for that in this market!!
