Prince George, B.C. – The City of Prince George is looking for your input on how to develop what they call an “active transportation plan”. This is a plan that encourages the use of “all human-powered forms of travel such as walking, cycling, jogging/running, roller-, in-line and ice-skating, skateboarding, use of a wheelchair or scooter, cross-country skiing, canoeing and kayaking. The most popular forms are walking and cycling, and active transportation can be combined with other modes such as public transit”
The City has been successful in landing a grant of $22,500 to develop such a plan.
The idea is that “Active Transportation” increases accessibility, tourism potential, and the health and quality of life, while reducing vehicle emissions, energy use, and travel and infrastructure costs.
A completed Active Transportation Plan for Prince George will provide a comprehensive document to guide the development of a continuous, safe and enjoyable network of active transportation infrastructure including the existing trails.
The public’s first look at this project comes on March 10th when there will be an open house at City Hall from 6-9 p.m. People can also participate by filling out an online survey which is accessible on the City’s web site www.city.pg.bc.ca.
All of the information gathered will be incorporated into the final report which is expected to be presented to Prince George City Council for approval late this Spring.
