Fort St. John, B.C.- Now that a CT scanner has been installed at the Fort St.John Hospital, people living in the north eastern part of B.C. won’t have to travel as far for this diagnostic service.
Up until now, residents had to travel to Dawson Creek and District Hospital for the service. The installation of the $1.75 million dollar CT suite in Ft. St. John has several benefits:
· brings that service closer to home
· will reduce wait lists.
· Will serve as a back up
"The Fort St. John CT scanner has already been able to provide service for Dawson Creek patients during scheduled maintenance for the Dawson Creek unit”, said Darlene Giesbrecht, manager of diagnostic imaging, Fort St. John Hospital. “And Fort St. John patients have been able to save the travel and time away from home or work by accessing CT services locally.”
A CT exam involves specialized equipment that requires staff with specialized training. Though technologists can be difficult to recruit, Fort St. John and Dawson Creek are fortunate to have the highly-skilled staff available to provide these services in a timely manner.
