Quesnel BC.- Quesnel Council has exceeded its goal to hold taxes to a 0% change from last year.

In previous meetings, Council indicated to staff that they were looking for a 0% change to taxes this year.

To achieve this, Council needed to eliminate $412,000 in spending. Staff provided Council with a number of options on how to reach this goal.

After reviewing the options, Council opted to:

  1. Reduce the supplemental budget list. (Supplemental items are new items that are not part of the City’s baseline budget.) Savings: $173,000
  2. Reducing the current operating budget. Savings - $296,000

In all, Council cut roughly $469,000 from the budget, exceeding the targeted amount.

Amazing! I thought tax increases every year were automatic, but I'm from Prince George.
Wow! This shows that it can be done. Where there is a will -there is a way!
In the 8 years I have lived in Prince George my taxes have gone up every single year.
I don't think the people in our city hall know how to budget

The city of Quenel seems to be step ahead of PG most of the time.........I might have to retire there
Lets offer them a job! Even if we gave them a huge wage increase we would be ahead if they could find a way to not raise our taxes. :} Small town mentality along with small town spending seems to go a very long way. Unlike our fair stinky city who only knows how to spend on things we dont need. They expect to get tourists to come here....Roflmao People in RV's do not like replacing their shocks!
Trucks are less in Quesnel.
