Prince George, B.C. - Elections B.C. is sending out a note that its time to make sure you are on the voter’s list for the May 12th provincial elections.

Although more than 75% of eligible voters in all of B.C. are already registered at the correct address, there are certain ridings where the rate is much lower.

For Nechako Lakes, the new riding that takes in some of the old, Prince George - Omineca riding, the percent of voters who are registered is just 61.8%.

Prince George- Mackenzie has 79.3% of its eligible voters registered, while Prince George-Valemount has 77%.

Cariboo North has 73.3%

Skeena has 75.6%

The riding with the worst registration is Peace River North at 50.2%

Chief Electoral Officer for B.C. is Harry Neufeld, and he says registering couldn’t be easier “Maybe you don’t know how easy it is to register to vote, You may be worried about finding the time or a parking space, facing line ups or filling in complicated paper forms. Forget that. The reality is you can register in a few minutes by going on line at www.elections.b.c.ca or by calling 1-800-661-8683 where our operators can register you over the phone. Please do it now.”

Neufeld says while he appreciates that more than 75% of the eligible voters in the province have registered, it’s the remaining 25% he’s concerned about “They’re the ones who still haven’t registered or may be registered incorrectly at the address where they used to live.”

Neufeld encourages those who are already on the list to contact their friends and neighbours and ask them to make sure they too are on the list “If you were waiting for a personal invitation to register to vote from the guy in charge of Elections B.C., this is it.”

Generally my comments are useless and just occupy a bit of space in these forums.

Today I'll do something useful. The correct address for the elections site:

http://www.elections.bc.ca

Happy to contribute something useful for a change :-)
Thanks beesknees!
Good one beesknees!
Now, if we could just get people out to vote!
This is a big one, and we must get out and cast our ballots to decide the future.
Everytime we fail to vote in an election provincial, federal,or city, the self-serving politicians steal another little piece of democracy and our freedoms.
At a time when our economy is in the tank, jobs are disappearing, and those we elect are still spending like these was no tomorrow,we NEED to vote!
If we don't vote,we lose control, but we still get to pay for it all anyway!
People ARE are the government, but that tends to get forgotten because so many fail to get out and vote!
VOTE GREEN! That way we will be right in line with the "go green" that has been used to soak us out of more tax money. *Grin
Can't argue with that logic Shellshadow!
Unfortunately, green is not my favorite colour!
LOL Andy! :}~
