Prince George, B.C.- Search and rescue teams will try again tomorrow to recover the bodies of two men who died in a slide on Renshaw Mountain Tuesday night
The two victims were from the Edmonton area. They were part of a trio caught in a slide Tuesday night. The third member of their group managed to dig himself out, and dug out a friend who had died. He wasn’t able to locate his other friend, so he walked four hours to a cabin where he was found Wednesday morning.
The conditions on the mountain are so dangerous, RCMP have asked people to stay clear of the area. While search teams now know the location of the third snowmobiler, the conditions have been too dangerous to try and go in and recover his body.
Avalanche technicians have been trying to perform avalanche maintenance to try and stabilize the snowpack.
The widow of one of the victims says all three were very experienced snowmobilers and they were carrying shovels, probes and beacons.
Names of the victims have not been released as all next of kin have not yet been notified.
Earlier today, a slide in Kimberley claimed the life of another snowmobiler, bringing this season’s avalanche death toll in B.C. to 23.
