Dollars Delivered for Retrofits

Prince George, B.C.- The Province has announced the funding for retrofits to a number of public buildings, aimed at reducing emissions. Here’s how the dollars break down in a number of 250 communities:
 
 
Prince George: $546,166 total, projects include:
  • $187,300 for Jubilee Lodge to install a pool dehumidifier, retrofit lighting, upgrade air handling units and building automation system, install motion sensors, and replace windows; 
  • $188,125 for the Parkside intermediate care home to install a variable frequency drive air units, a building automation system, domestic hot water heaters, gray water heat recovery equipment,
    occupancy sensors, new boilers and retrofit lighting, at the Parkside intermediate care home; and 
  • $170,741 for the Rainbow intermediate care home to install variable frequency drive air units, a building automation system, new domestic hot water heaters, new boilers and retrofit lighting.
McBride:
  • $88,910 to retrofit lighting, install variable speed drives on HVAC equipment and improve ventilation at McBride and District Hospital .
Vanderhoof:
  • $347,387 will be spent on installing new condensing furnaces, upgrading to T-8 bulbs and energy efficient ballasts at three Vanderhoof schools: Mapes Elementary, Nechako Valley Secondary, and W.L. McLeod Elementary.
Bulkley Valley-Stikine:
  • $6,598 for lighting retrofits and infiltration reductions at the Lakes District Home Support Nurses Residence in Burns Lake;
  • $195,760 for the installation of new boilers and domestic hot water heaters, lighting retrofits, and a building automation system with ventilation controls at the Pines long-term care facility in Burns Lake;
  • $31, 732 for lighting upgrades to Houston Secondary School; and
  • $92,128 for lighting upgrades and energy efficient ballasts at Smithers Secondary School.

So they are going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to save hundreds of dollars?
The green revolution has nothing to do with saving dollars. Granted, I agree we need to make more efficient use of available resources, by reducing total energy use.
Just don't try to snow over this tax payer that it about cost saving by changing some light bulbs.
If you want to really save money, first thing is stop spending it.
second, reduce administrative resources and focus on core activities of you organization. In other words if it is an education facility, then hire more teachers.
