Prince George, B.C.- Members of the Prince George community  came out this  evening to help a local family.
Doug Jones,  the morning  announcer on 99.3 The Drive, has been in Vancouver at Children’s Hospital where his 5 year old son Jameson is battling cancer. Jameson has had a tumour removed from his brain, and is about to go through his final and heaviest bout of chemo therapy.
In a strong show of support, members of the community turned out to a special evening at the Coast Inn of the North and through silent and live auctions and corporate donations, raised more than $20 thousand dollars for the family.
Significant donations came from the auto dealers of Prince George who  presented a cheque for $2,700, the Spirit of the North Foundation presented a cheque for $1,000. Auction items saw Brent Marshall of Northland Chrysler buying a  radio advertising remote for $3000.00, Katherine Hansen  of CKPG paid a thousand dollars for a trip for two provided by Opinion 250 and Uniglobe Sunburst Travel.
There were numerous silent auction items, from cosmetics, to golf clubs to wine and limited edition art to jewellery, gift certificates, gift baskets, and sports items including a BC Lions Football signed by Geroy Simon.
In a video taped message, Doug Jones, Jameson and Doug’s wife Lisa offered their thanks for all the efforts by all involved, and Jameson promised he was going to “Kick Cancer in the Butt!”
