Quesnel  – The City of Quesnel and the Cariboo Regional District officially opened the new South Quesnel satellite recycling depot today. Located in the parking lot of the Maple Park Shopping Centre, the depot offers a place for residents of South Quesnel, Red Bluff and other southerly neighbourhoods to drop off their recyclables without having to travel all the way to the municipal landfill.

“Recycling is a great way for our community to reduce its carbon footprint, while acting in an environmentally conscious fashion,” said Mayor Mary Sjostrom. “And by reducing the amount of garbage entering our landfill, we’re adding years to the landfill’s life, saving taxpayer dollars in the long run. As our recycling brochure states, Recycling is Simply Right.”

“The North Cariboo Directors are proud to be a part of this program that is focused not only on waste reduction, but also in the promotion of recycling”, said Cariboo Regional District Board Vice‐Chair and Area A Director Ted Armstrong. “Through ongoing collaboration with our partner, the City of Quesnel, we continue to contribute towards our goals of carbon neutrality, which will improve the quality of life of our residents today and future generations.”

Members of the South Quesnel Business Association and South Quesnel Neighbourhood Association have been vocal supporters of the recycling depot and the City was able to partner with the SQBA to locate a depot on one of its members’ properties.

Ha ha. The way the title reads I thought they were recycling satellites in Quesnel.
Geez what am i gonna do with this old Sputnik now?
How is it that a much smaller community has the ability to be this innovative and cost conscious?

In PG, they have shut down the only swap shed in the city, leaving only the one at the foothills landfill. The bottle depot on first is closed on a Sunday, the only day that residents typically haul away refuse and recycling.

Get with the program PG council! Let's have an actual working program. Enable recycling centers on the periphery of the city so residents don't have to drive to the other side of town. Make them visible, do not hide them behind a huge retail building.
Innovative??????

Not even curbside pickup is innovative any longer. Hasn't been for some 20+ years.

Not having curbside pickup should be considered negligence of a municipality's duties to its citizens.
