Councillors Cameron Stolz and Sheri Green show off the  Community Clean Up T-shirt for this year's event.

Prince George, B.C.- The Mayor, and members of Prince George City council were out picking up litter today to spread the word about the annual city clean up program.

The City wide clean up day is set for Sunday, and the city will provide volunteers with gloves and bags to hold the garbage.

Waste Services Supervisor, Sean LeBrun says last year, volunteers picked up about 10,000 tonnes of litter. That was down considerably from the previous year when some 17,000 tonnes of garbage was picked up.

Volunteers need only get in touch with City Hall ( 250-561-7600) to make arrangements for pick up of gloves and bags.

Corporate sponsor is, once again, Tim Hortons,

7,000 tonnes less, is that because of less litter or less volunteers picking up the litter?
Less litter and "fewer" volunteers. Now, doesn't that sound better? You're welcome.
I think it is mainly because the litter was lighter. The previous year a heck of a lot of people included the sand and pebbles when they broom cleaned the sidewalks. In addition, the year before there was more rain, so the general paper and cardboard was wet and much heavier.

Also note that in 2008 they were picking up litter while in 2007 they were picking up garbage. Quite a difference.
Its good to see Tim Hortons is the sponsor. After all its their cups that little this city the most.
Sorry, I meant to say "litter".
Nope, those cups have been purchased by the user of the cup. It is their cups that litter the streets.

Time to put a 5 cent refund on paper cups .....
I can't believe that in this day & age people are still tossin' sh*t on the ground. Idiots.
