Prince George, B.C.-  It will be a couple more weeks before sport fields in Prince George can be used.

The delayed spring season has most outdoor groups wondering when they will be able to get outdoors to begin their 2009 spring and summer season. City crews have been monitoring the fields regularly to determine when fields will be ready for play. Usually  the  fields are open May 1st, but not this year,  the fields  are not expected to be open until May 9th  with  fields in the  Hart Highway  region not opening for  two weeks after that.

“Our season is already much shorter in Prince George compared to the Lower Mainland and Okanagan communities so getting out on the fields as soon as possible is always a concern for local groups. Ensuring the turf can withstand the use and is safe for the participant’s is our first priority at this time of year”, says Lisa Shaw-MacLaren, Recreation Coordinator for the City of Prince George.

The City reminds all users to remain off sport fields until they are officially open. Turf can easily be damaged if used prior to roots establishing or in extreme wet conditions. Staying off the turf will provide optimal conditions for the rest of the season. Groups requiring an outdoor preseason practice area can contact the City of Prince George and alternate space can be provided in some lower impacted areas.

plus a week to clear all the doggy dodo from owners taking their inappropriately sized pets for a walk where our children play.
shut up loki
Whats an inappropriately sized pet Loki??? Do you live near cows and horses in city limits?
Loki's got it right. Quite a few dog owners take their dogs for a stroll in school yards, and other areas where dogs are not permitted.

The dog crap that it spread around is beyond beleif. You would think that the owners would have enough intelligence not to do this,. but it appears that they dont.

inappropriately sized = more than a lap dog sized animal in an apartment or any multi-residence structure (duplex,four-plex, most city or urban homes with city size lots)

It really bothers me when I see a Shepard or large breed dog in an apartment. Or the single gal (worse if male) with 10 cats in an apartment.

Animals are therapeutic and calming and we need to expose our kids to care for a creature. the problem is the unthinking human that has too large or too many creatures for their property.

Be reasonable and admit when you do not have the space. Just because there is an empty field by your home does not mean it is a pet toilet.
I agree. Curb your dog & pick up the crap. It's your responsibility.
I wonder if the frost will be out of the ground by then?
