Quesnel, B.C.- Northern Health and the City of Quesnel have issued a precautionary boil water advisory for a number of properties off Quesnel Hydraulic Road. The advisory is the result of testing that showed an unacceptably high level of E. Coli in the water supply.

Until further notice, residents of properties in the advisory area should boil any water that will be used for human consumption (drinking, cooking, brushing teeth) for at least two minutes. Showering and bathing is fine as long as no water is swallowed.

Properties in the advisory area are located on the following streets:

  • Morast Rd.
  • Tatchell Rd.
  • Giesbrecht Rd.
  • Redden Rd.
  • Manweiler Rd.
  • Vicker Rd.
Until water has been confirmed safe for drinking, residents should:
  • Obtain bottled water or water from another source that is known to be safe;
  • Boil water for at least two minutes; or
  • Disinfect water with unscented liquid chlorine bleach. Add eight drops of bleach to one gallon of clear water (if the water is cloudy, double the amount of bleach). Thoroughly mix and let stand for 30 minutes.
Northern Health also advises rigorous hand-washing for residents in the affected areas and as a general preventive health measure. Hand washing with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds will greatly reduce the risk of any illness that might occur following contact with contaminated water.

Northern Health will conduct further testing on Monday and Tuesday, April 26 and 27. Results should be available Wednesday, April 28.  At that time, the City and Northern Health will determine the next steps.

If the water probably comes from dragon lake, it's not a surprise.
The water does not come from Dragon Lake! Most of those roads are all on city water! The City has some serious sewer problems in this area and maybe they should look into it!
I wonder if Northern Health have checked all the water supply"s in Quesnel or just southhills ? It would be nice to know the results elsewhere.
Any sewer problems should be reported to Northern Health and City Hall.
Probably get that fixed right away considering it is southhills, seems to be some pull in that area, first to be cleared of snow in the winter, more sand than anywhere else, including the highway.
The smell of sewer in that area has been there for months along with sewer pump trucks and the city works dept. with no notice to the public as to what is going on!! The works dept should have warned people along time ago. Adjacent to Tatchell Road is a stream that dumps everything into Dragon Lake. YIKES

The notice handed out in the affected area states the water sample was taken by a resident, in their house. E coli is not uncommon on unsterilized household taps. Further testing will reveal whether there is any problem with the water.
