Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George has given the first three readings to a bylaw that will establish a dangerous goods route for the City and set the fines for violations.

The bylaw outlines the routes as follows:

STREET

FROM

TO

Noranda Road

Highway 97

Northwood Pulpmill Road

Northwood Pulpmill Road
Highway 97

East Limit

Prince George Pulpmill  Road

Cameron Street Bridge

East Limit

Old Cariboo Highway

Highway 16

City Limit

1st Avenue
Victoria Street

Carney Street /
River Road

Cameron Street Bridge

River Road

Prince George Pulpmill Road

North Nechako Road
Cameron Street Bridge
Highway 97 Interchange

There are fines attached to this bylaw :
  • Fail to transport dangerous goods on a designated dangerous  goods route
  • Transporting dangerous goods in oversize/overweight vehicle on residential street
  • Stopping within the City

"Every person who violates any provision of this Bylaw, or who permits, suffers of allows any act to be done in violation of any provisions of this Bylaw, or who neglects to do anything required to be done by any provisions of this Bylaw, commits an offence punishable upon summary conviction and is subject to a fine not less than $2,000 and not more than $10,000, or a term of imprisonment not exceeding six months, or both. "

The route clearly shows Victoria Street as part of the plan, but that is because Victoria Street is considered a provincial highway and the City cannot stop the transportation of dangerous goods on a provincial highway.
