Prince George, B.C- The number of confirmed cases of swine flu in B.C. is now 6.   All of the  cases are in the Lower Mainland.
Of that number, 5 of the six are among people who have come home from Mexico, and the other is someone who was in close contact with international travellers.
While it would appear one of the cases is that of secondary transmission, Dr. David Patrick, Director of epidemiology services with the BC Centre for Disease Control, says secondary transmission is very difficult to  confirm.
In all cases, those with confirmed cases are at home and 4 of the 6 are still sick.
Dr. Patrick says the best way to limit the spread of swine flu is for people who have a cough or fever to stay home.
Dr. Patrick says there are still plenty of people who are experiencing  seasonal influenza and points out that   the normal flu season claims lives, and 15% – 20% of the population will contract seasonal flus.
The United States has confirmed it’s first death from swine flu, a child in Texas succumbed to the illness, that child had recently returned from Mexico.
