Dawson Creek, BC—A coalition of community leaders has been formed in an effort to help the Enbridge Northern Gateway Project become a reality.

Called the Northern Gateway Alliance , the  organization hopes to generate support for the project.

“This is an exciting project for both northern BC and Alberta,” said Colin Kinsley former Mayor of Prince George, and Chair of the Northern Gateway Alliance. “It’s important that northerners have a voice in the project.  This project represents untold new opportunities for both aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities while adhering to the highest standards and best environmental practices.”

To date the group has already signed over 100 members with a goal of 500 members over the next several months.  Among the community leaders already  featured on the  Alliance's  new website are; Kitimat Mayor  Joanne Monaghan,  Mackenzie Mayor Stephanie Killam,  Initiaitives Prince George CEO Tim McEwan and VP Economic Development Katherine Scouten.

The project is a multi billion dollar plan that would see a  twin pipeline built from Alberta to  a marine terminal in Kitmat.  One line would be used to transport petroleum to the terminal for export, while the other would be used to  import condensate to  Alberta.  The  line has received some resistance from some coastal Frist Nations who  are concerned about the  marine terminal  and the  potential for oil spills on the west coast.

Agreements have been reached with 30 of the 50 bands  impacted along the  pipeline route.

The Northern Gateway Alliance is reaching out to northern residents, businesses, unions and community groups to talk about the benefits of the project. The goal is to build its support base and ultimately make this project a reality.

The group has launched a website (  www.northerngatewayalliance.ca) where  people can  add their names to the list of members.

This is a very doable project, and with the right environmental controls and standards, there is no reason why it should go ahead.
Let's get at it!
Yeah lets create something that may create a handful of permanent jobs at best, all the while transporting dangerous poisons through our backyards.

Also, ask yourself if you would really want a project both endorsed by Diamond Colin Quimby and Initiatives PG? The very same crew who brought you Horizon Air.
The issue is at the other end. The tankers come into Kitmat up a narrow inlet. Our northern BC ferry sank at the end of this inlet.

Then there is the issue of tankers traversing the Great Bear Rain Forest. Great issue for the groups - White Spirit Bears in misty old growth vrs evil tankers. Can you see the images?

The ghost of Exxon Valdies is still very out there.

The main battle will on the coast! I think some resistance will be an understatement.

Frank
will show the yanks that if they don't mind their p&q's our oil & natural gas could go elsewhwere. To Franf The ferry sank off the tip of vancouver island and lots of traffic in and out of Prince Rupert. A little care and attention and all should be well.
Screw the rainforest. What has a bear done for me lately besides spread my garbage all over the street? Build the pipeline. Hopefully it poisons a few bears.
Your a dreamer downnotout. For your information most of the oil will go by tanker ships to California. Who do you think is building this pipeline. Duhhhh. The Americans of course.

Its interesting that ex Mayor Kinsley, along with the Mayors of Kitimat, and Mackenzie have taken such an interest in this project. Its especially nice to see the also rans from IPG stepping to the plate to take a bow.

Is Kinsley volunteering his time, or is he being paid for this work. If he is being paid, then by who??? Could he be a front man for Enbridge????

Did these people just decide to get together one day and decide to set up the Northern Gateway Alliance , or were they approached by **vested interests** to get the Alliance going and to soften up people in the area for the battle to come.

Interesting times ahead. Much of it will be bullshit baffling brains, but interesting nontheless.
Life is everchanging - things have to move forward. We cannot go backwards - live in the bush with no electricity, no gas to heat with - and hey wood burning is out too. No mankind will continue to change and evolve .......even if it doesn't seem to be better.
Build the pipe line and lets do our utmost to keep it as safe as possible. As far as tankers - same thing they could be build much, much better so there would be way less risk - just double hulls would be a big help, but many of these tankers are not built well enough to be hauling fuel. Better tankers safer tankers are possible.
No we can't go back in time, so let's move forward with as much care as possible.
