WILLIAMS LAKE – Due to dry conditions throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre there has been more wildfire activity than normal for this time of year.

Since last weekend crews have responded to eight fires, all of which were caused by human activity. These fires have been extinguished and are now in the mop-up or patrol stages.
Light precipitation on both the Kelly Lake and 70 Mile House fires has helped crews in their fire suppression efforts. Both fires are now 100% contained, and infrared scanning has been conducted to help identify any remaining hot spots. A fire camp has been established at the Big Bar Airstrip just north of Clinton to support the 130 fire suppression personnel.
Smaller fires that ignited throughout the Cariboo over the past week include, Anaham Reserve and Redstone, Konni Lake and Becher Prairie/Riske Creek. These fires are also in the mop-up and patrol stages.
A weather system moved through the area last night and resulted in 63 lightning strikes. One small spot fire was identified, but has been extinguished by fire suppression personnel.
Most of the Cariboo Fire Centre is in a low fire danger rating. The fire weather forecast is predicting cooler temperatures and higher humidity into next week, with a chance of thundershowers.
