Prince George, B.C.- The clock will soon be ticking for the owner of 255 Quebec Street.
Prince George City Council has approved four recommendations which:
a) declare the building to be a nuisance that Council considers “so dilapidated and unclean as to be offensive to the community, and that remedial action is required.”
b) call for the owner of the building to have the building demolished, the debris removed and any foundation hole filled
c) sets the time limit for this work to be done at 60 days starting May 13th
d) gives the owner two weeks, (starting May 13th) to request Council reconsider the action.

The building was the scene of a fire about two years ago. (at right, firefighters prepare to tackle flames visible inside the tattoo shop in May of 2007, photo opinion250 archive)
Since then, the building has been either blocked off by fencing, or (more recently) boarded up.
The request to have the building demolished carries more than a dozen letters from concerned citizens who say they believe the building to be unsafe and hazardous.

Maybe we should charge the City a fee for this.
