Attack Politics Failed To Impress The Voters

In the end,the ploy of using attack ads as a means of trying to topple a government failed. It was a series of Liberal Candidates who laid their platform and their work ethic on the line in the provincial election.

In particular the voters of the Prince George -Valemount riding honoured Shirley Bond with a spread of over 2,000 votes. Bond has been a tireless worker not only in the Cabinet as Deputy Premiere, and Education Minister but also as an MLA for her constituency. There has been a concerted effort to make Bond look like a dud, that ploy failed miserably.

Conversely, Pat Bell , who the NDP were hoping would be cut loose by the people of Mackenzie , is viewed as a guy who genuinely was interested in the future of that community. In spite of the rhetoric to the contrary, Bell has done his home work as the Forest Minister and should be rewarded along with Bond with a return to their former Cabinet positions.

Prince George came out well, we are almost certain to get two Cabinet posts in the new government, from two dedicated Cabinet Ministers.

Speaking for the NDP, Carole James now faces the knives as they appear seeking her head for the failure to form government. It should be kept in mind James brought the party from being small enough to hold a cacus meeting in a corvette  to where it is today. She was badly advised in using attack ads and that sort of politics has now likely worn out its welcome. As for the two NDP candidates, both can hold their heads high having taken on a formidable task.

Now let’s move on with ensuring that following the 2010 Olympics, the central and northern parts of this province get their share of the provincial pie. That will take the efforts of everyone, NDP and Liberal alike to achieve.

I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.

"She was badly advised in using attack ads and that sort of politics has now likely worn out its welcome."

One can only hope! The attack ads were strangely at odds with her friendly personality, in my opinion. And most of them were fictional exaggerations and not based on any real facts.

Politics, to be sure, but basically unbefitting of a great person like Ms. James.

Now, it's over and done with.
I agree Ms. James is great person. I think she is just in the wrong party and maybe ill advised. I also agree the attack ads seemed phony. They turned me off. I would much rather have heard how their party would work to impove the province. An example - she said NDP would improve health care in the north - but she never said how she would do that. There is a shortage of nurses and doctors across Canada and around most of the world. So what was her plan to attract more professionals to this area?? I didn't feel there was any substance to her platform. Just to say you are going to do something without any real action plan didn't make me believe that this party would be any different from the NDP that was in power before the Liberals. At back 8 - 10 years ago, this province was in real rought shape. I guess People were afraid of going back that way especially in light of the economy today.
I'm not a Liberal supporter but I just can't vote for a party that has Carole James as a leader. I can't put my finger on it but she just rubs me the wrong way.
Every time she speaks I cringe. She comes off as very negative even when she is being positive. The NDP needs a new leader that inspires confidence, not a negative nelly who inspires basically nothing.
Until that happens they will never get my vote, and Gordo deson't deserve it.
I hear bigotry and small-mindedness.
Gordo this & Gordo that. It's infantile & people are sick of it.
As I have said before, It does not matter who gets in, we always find ways to survive. Some will be worse off than others, but that is the case no matter who holds the chair and some believe that the others are insignificant anyway.
As I have stated before I have voted for just about every party that was available to me at one time or another over the years. I have found that no matter what happens, in the end, life goes on, even when the party I voted for wins. Nothing of any importance really changed for the better.
The reason for this is most people do not allow themselves to look outside their own worlds and into another persons, it is easier to stay home, mostly because if it does not affect them as individuals why should they care.
I have also found that people tend to vote for the "party" (notice I did not say the "person") who will best look after them as individuals, which basically all parties do, just with different people and for different reasons rather than the "person" who is willing to give all people, all business ventures and all issues equal representation, no matter what their affiliation.

It would be nice to see a person run and win who actually cares about the human factor in all and of all that we do rather than just the financial success of the big corporations and the few select persons that actually do run the province.
The election process does not seem to be focused on the immediate important issues of our time or the world, never mind the issues facing our northern communities. Instead they focus on what ever it takes to win the big chair at the end of the day. Bribery and lies flow from all directions and all parties. When it is all over and the winner is chosen all the gratuities dry up and the struggle of life begins all over again, especially for the less fortunate.
The party that won the power to lead does not really play into it because all parties are built using the same mold or platform and all parties follow and lead with the same mentality. One party may be supportive of big business, one party may be supportive of the labor force and others may support the smoking of marijuana and other such things. All parties can be swayed in on direction or another based on the amount of support they receive, monetarily or otherwise. In the end nothing really changes, they are all loyal to their affiliates and the insignificant others matter not to them.
This is and will continue to be so because we do not make our selection based on the "person" who wish's to lead. The most important things in life do not have a price tag attached to them and many of these things are not visible. Because these things can not be bought or sold we treat them as useless and worthless pieces of junk, which we discard without really any kind of thought what so ever. Many do not even realize that they personally own these priceless gems themselves (trust, caring, compassion and generosity just to name a few)....pretty sad don't you think.
While I was doing some research on JFK and Martin Luther King one day, something very powerful hit me in relation to what made these two people so strong and historically significant. These two people actually ran their lives and their politics based on sound personal principles that were near and dear to their hearts. Similar type principles are near and dear to some of us as well still today. For some of us, these principles go beyond being near and dear, and are actually deeply rooted into the very core of our being. Because of this, it is very painful to watch a repeat of past mistakes happening over and over again, driven only by money, power and greed.

Do not feel good or bad because a party won or lost, instead, focus your work and attention on making things better for all humanity. The man or woman who is awarded the big seat can help to make the world a better place, we just have to look beyond the titles they have attached to themselves and decide to see and work with the person that is hiding in there somewhere behind the cover of the "party".

Attack ads? It seems to me that if done right over a long period of time they work just fine. The may seem childish and rough, but they continue to get used because they are effective.

Have a look at this site for example:

There is too much ossified thinking. We need compulsory voting like the Aussies (I lived there one year)

Our schools are grinding out uncreative, backward drones. And that is reflected in the political process.

Someone would have to have dirt for brains to believe that Convict-Campbell leads anything but a kleptocracy.

Carol James snatched defeat from the arms of victory. We needed MORE attack-ads. The message of Lib thievery and fraud should have been played 24-7-365. Convict-Campbell should have been pillorized until he collapsed in a mass of inertia.
NDPers are extremists. period. The attack ads simply showed the true colours of the party - a bunch of raving lunatics.
