Prince George, B.C. – While the details have yet to be released for the Northern Real Estate Board, the Provincial office is saying that across B.C., home sales are balancing out.

According to the BC Real Estate Association, April was the third straight month of increasing home sales in B.C.

The Association says consumer demand has been bolstered by lower home prices and record low mortgage rates. “Downward pressure on home prices has eased considerably,” says Cameron Muir, BCREA Chief Economist. “An increase in consumer demand combined with fewer homes for sale has trended the market near balanced conditions.”

The number of homes for sale through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS®) fell to a twelve-month low in April, on a seasonally adjusted basis. The year to year comparison is not so rosy, with MLS® residential sales dollar volume in BC down  25 % to $3.1 billion in April, compared to the same month last year.

Residential unit sales were down 20%  during the same period. The average MLS® residential price in the province was down about 6%  from April 2008.
