Prince George, B.C. – A young motorcyclist escaped serious injuries this morning because he was wearing the right gear.
RCMP Constable Gary Godwin says around 8:30 this morning, southbound motorcyclist was making a right hand turn from the Hart Highway on to 5th Avenue heading west bound when his motorcycle slid out on some gravel that was on the pedestrian walkway lines. The motorcycle slid across the median and under a school bus on 5th Avenue that was waiting to make a left hand turn on to the Northbound Hart Highway.
Constable Godwin says the rider was wearing a Ballistic jacket, heavy jeans, leather gloves, a full face helmet and proper boots. “It was wearing the proper gear that saved this young man from any serious injuries” says Godwin. “That is the message we want to get out, to make sure that if you are riding a motorcycle, that you wear the proper clothing. It is also important to remember this is the time of the year when new lines are painted on highways and roadways. Those fresh lines can be very slippery if they get wet. They can also be very slippery when there is any gravel on them because it’s like marbles on glass. So we just want riders to be aware, and remind them to be careful.”
In this morning’s case, the rider suffered some minor cuts and bruises.
