Those young guys drive those damn things way too fast for city streets. They don't get tagged because the cops can't catch them.
A lot of drivers in cars and trucks don't pay enough attention to what's going on around them and often hit motorcycle riders. So it's a two way street.
You are both right. Speed is often a factor, but the truth is, many car drivers are just not looking for motorcyclists on the road. The rider must ride as though he or she is invisible (not invincible!) It is called defensive driving, you watch the other vehicles on the road as though they are all gunning for you, and do not ride faster than the traffic is moving. Wait until you are alone on the road and away from populated areas before riding aggressivly, and even then, you have to contend with sand or other hard to see debris on the tarmac that will put you on your head in the blink of an eye.
I am sorry that this young man did not live long enough to learn, that is a tragedy.
metalman.
Ahhhh.... true M.man... all true.

Sorry to see another rider down.

Like they say when you first sit astride a bike... "there are only two types of people who ride motorcycles.... those who have already had a serious accident and those who haven't yet.... "

Our condolences to family and friends.

I arrived at that scene right after it occurred and the motorbike was 2 blocks from where this poor guy got hit. According to witnesses he was driving extremely fast. Poor guy, poor family and friends - what a horrible accident...it makes me feel physically sick when you see something like that, I only hope he didn't suffer at all.
They are not called murder cycles for nothing. Have an accident you will be hurt.
My condonlences to his family and friends. May many people learn from this tragedy. He was too young.
the young do not learn. It is only those that survive their own mistakes and recognize the mistakes of others that make it past youth. Darwin wins again.
Another terrible tragedy. My condolences to the family of this young man.

In the defence of motorcyclists, I have been impressed with the increased amount of street smarts most riders display. They know they are surrounded by people that don't see them, and ride accordingly.

When you travel at high speed, you give "people who already don't see you" even less of an opportunity to see you coming.
What a ridiculous comment, Loki. Not Only is it unreasonably callous, but you open by saying the young dont learn, then close by listing how they do.

How different would you approach this situation had this been a close friend of yours?
I'm pretty certain that I saw this young man earlier in the day. He passed me on Central doing about 140 kph b/t 15th and 10th. He had to come to an unusually sudden stop at the 10th ave intersection. I was going to report him but there wasn't a licence plate on the bike that I could see after I finally caught up with him at the light??? As he rode away I assumed that he wouldn't last long riding like that.

A friend of my daughter's died a few short years ago on a "crotch rocket" and the emotional ripple effects from his death were immense. I'm sure the same will be true for this guy's family/friends. I'm truely sad for each of them.

Bikes that are built for speed, and speed alone are pointless. Why are they legal?
callous, yes, ridiculous, no. I do not mince words or pull punches.
I have said the same words when someone close has caused their own pain or that of others. Self interested stupidity is rampant because we are so civilized now that we cannot call a spade a spade.
I feel for his family and friends as the rest do.

In poking this bear I hope to spur open discussion and encourage families to look after each other. This young man went and did what he pleased at the cost of his own life and could have caused grief for other families (definition of spoiled brat). If his circle of influence had encouraged more responsible behavior and he bought in to a safer life style like riding fast on a track instead of the street, he may be alive today.
Tell us whatever story you want, Loki.
If it had been my son that died, I would have been incredibly hurt by your ignorant comments whether you feel justified in saying them or not.

The young man made a mistake, as many young people do, and it cost him the ultimate price, as it often happens when young people make mistakes.

It is a tragedy by any man's standards.
Yes,ridiculous.

You opened by saying "young do not learn." Then follow it with two examples of when they do.

In your attempt to justify yourself you even to chalk one up for Darwin when someone close to you has hurt someone else. Please understand Darwin's works before you use them as ammo.
Really?
People think that Darwin said the strong survive. What he did say was that the weak and stupid are easier prey and that leaves the stronger and the ones that can learn in a species and that is what promotes a species to survival.

Anyone that has survived their youthful mistakes are no longer in their youth.

There are a few comments indicating that this young man was ripping up the streets for a while that day.

My condolences to the driver of the car that he hit. He will have to live for years dealing with the fact that he was directly involved with a death through no fault of his. This young man selfishly place himself and all those on the streets in danger and paid the ultimate penalty. He has caused grief and pain for not only the driver of the car he hit, but also to his own family and friends. And you want to chastise me for being blunt and on the mark?
You say things we all know, but don't need to say during a families' time of grieving.

Maybe you want to go to the funeral so you can beat the dead body ?

Remember that being right doesn't make your comments right.
