PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – A fire 30 kilometres west of Liard Hot Springs near Smith River has affected the Alaska Highway.

The fire is currently approximately 70 hectares in size and is not contained at this time. Air tankers worked the fire last night and a senior fire control team and 4 unit crews (20 person crews) are en route. No structures are threatened at this time. The highway is currently open with traffic being assisted; this could change pending fire activity. For current road conditions contact the Ministry of Transportation and drivebc.com.

The current weather forecast predicts the current warming and drying trend to continue through the week. The fire danger rating is currently moderate to high through most of the Prince George Fire Centre.

One of the most beautiful place in the world IMO... better than Banff, but maybe not quite as nice as highway 6 in the Yukon from my perspective.
It really is a spectacular place, definitely worth the drive.
