Prince George, B.C. - Prince George city councillor Garth Frizzell will be coming home from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities convention with some new responsibilities.
Frizzell has been elected to the FCM’s B.C. Caucus and has been selected as Vice Chair of that Caucus.
He and a representative from Nelson are the only two rural B.C. members of the caucus. “When I saw who was in the running, I thought it was important that rural B.C. have a voice, so I spoke with Mayor Dan Rogers about taking a shot at running.” He says the Mayor was very helpful in putting the word out.
Frizzell says he was surprised he was elected, “You know some of these people have 31 years experience in municipal politics, so it’s pretty rare for a first term Councillor to make it.” He was even more surprised to win the post of Vice Chair, a position he was chosen for by his fellow Caucus members.
Frizzell says it’s important that prince George be part of this Caucus, “I’m glad I’m there, because I’ve seen how influential the FCM can be. This is the group that convinced the Federal Government to give back the gas tax and to issue GST refunds, so it is a very powerful lobby group.”
He says with his presence, Prince George has a direct link to the decision making process, “ It means we will have a voice at the table, and it means we will be connected, and the rest of the Province will be hearing about our needs and concerns.”
