Prince George, B.C.- Workers from the soon to be closed Rustad sawmill in Prince George are invited to attend a special information session this afternoon at the Coast Inn of the North.
The 1:00 session is designed to   assist workers in their search for new work, or provide some answers to their financial questions.
Workers can expect to hear from representatives from HRDC Canada,  M.Turner and Associates, Assessing Planning Training (APT), Spruce Credit Union, Community Futures, the pension plan, and Sun Life Insurance as well as the Steelworkers Union.
This is the first information session for the 205 workers since they were given word their mill will close once the  current supply of logs has been depleted.

Good Luck to you all.
agreed shell but where is the help for those workers in the secondary industries who are going to lose there jobs.
Why can't injuried workers get the same consideration as those laidoff workers at the sawmills.
Join the RCMP. They had info sessions for laid off construction workers in the lower mainland. They are wanted and promised to be reposted back to the lower mainland if they successfully get through training.

This is a job (not really a career) that pays well. They should look into it, and why not?

You can bitch and joke about tazers, tickets, coffee and donuts all you want, but the bottom line is that guaranteed you will never have to worry about lay offs and in 3-4 yrs you will be making more than you did with the mills. Healthier too.
I think its called breaking the UNION. I think they want something .
Management is getting a happy package but the workers are left hanging, there is something very wrong with this picture,Joining the RCMP is not the answer and I wish them all GOOD LUCK.
Its not the only solution, but its one answer.
