Arrest Made in New Hazelton Child's Death

New Hazelton, B.C. - A teenaged male has been arrested  and charged in the death of a 21  month olf New Hazelton  toddler.

On June 3, 2009, at approximately 5:00 pm, New Hazelton RCMP and Emergency Health Services attended a residence in New Hazelton, BC for an unresponsive 21 month old male child. The child was immediately transported to Wrinch Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

RCMP North District Major Crime Unit assisted by the New Hazelton RCMP investigated the death of a 21 month old male child. Initially the death was treated as suspicious. Further investigation and a Forensic Autopsy have determined that the child died as a result of injuries sustained at the hands of another person. This elevated the investigation to a homicide.

On June 11. 2009, a male was arrested by the Major Crime Unit for Murder. The male is a young person and can not be identified. The matter remains under investigation.
