McBride - The case of the Edmonton man charged in connection with the abandoning of two horses in the Renshaw Region near McBride last winter has been remanded until August 14th in McBride Provincial court.
The plight of the animals came to light when a group of snowmobilers discovered the horses abandoned in snow up to five feet deep.
The horses were suffering from starvation and a group of volunteers dug a trench over 1 kilometre long in order to walk the animals to safety.
The two horses, Sundance and Belle, were seized from owner Frank MacKay (an Edmonton area lawyer) and placed in foster care. The animals have since been placed in permanent homes.
MacKay, has said he tried to rescue the horses but was unable to do so and left them to fend for themselves.
Frank Mackay was charged with three counts of animal cruelty, following a BC SPCA investigation. The charges include two counts under the Criminal Code of Canada and one count under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
He was scheduled to appear in court on June 12th to face the charges but the case was remanded to the later date.
