Prince George, B.C.- It looks as though there will be a portable on site for the Giscome Elementary  School this fall.
The existing facility has been deemed unsafe and School District 57 has decided it will not allow classes to be held in that facility  after the end of the current school year.
At the Regional District  of Fraser Fort George meeting, Director Kevin Dunphy   reported  he community is raising dollars to fund the establishment of a portable on site. This would avoid the unnecessary and lengthy bus rides for young students to schools within Prince George.
“We met with Trustees of School District 57 and it looks as though a portable will be on site this fall, and we all walked away from that meeting felling pretty good about it” says Director Dunphy. He says a longer term solution has yet to be found, however, he says the community is working with School District 57 on developing a community learning centre This would see the development of a multi purpose facility that is capable of meeting a variety of community needs.

Loki. Its a little tough to provide an education in every nook and cranny of the Country.

People have some responsibility to live in an area where their kids can receive an education. If not then they are faced with busing, or home learning. Nothing new here.

surprisingly, I agree with Loki.

Palopu, the rural setting is the backbone of our country. We need to foster it and protect it. It is us city folks, that is missing out on the real country of Canada.
I also disagree with Palopu, we all pay taxes whether we live in a city or in the country. The taxes I pay supports the museum in PG and the University and all the schools etc etc...what's wrong with some of our share of the taxes keeping a few small schools closer to our homes?? After-all it's a little difficult to raise cattle or grow food for the city dwellers within the confines of the city limits.
Having a school in a community is the backbone of that community. Take the school away and the community slowly dies. Lets get more schools back in the small communities!!!!
