Tragic story...
Also tragic is that the reporters here can't seem to spell worth a damn (last sentence).... I think there are spelling and grammar errors in half the articles I see here. It would seem to me that, as a journalist, good spelling would be a given, it's not as if there aren't any tools available for those that are challenged by language either.
This attitude of not caring or piss poor ethics with regard to doing a job well has become more prevalent in the workplace. Be it journalism, police work or the chef in the restaurant, it's seems that we are more concerned with these people 'feeling good' about themselves than with expecting them to actually do their jobs well. Mind you let's not forget they fully expect to highly compensated for their presence in the workplace regardless of performance!

Just my rant on the decline of professionalism today.
(sure hope i spelt everthang rite)

If only we all could be perfect. I get the drift of the story without a problem, now more BS how about you having a second take at what you wrote, see any mistakes there you’re so critical of, cause I do.
I don't profess to be perfect nor do I expect perfection and I'm NOT a Journalist.
Expectation that a Journalist can write a 100 word article (with no really big complicated words) without any spelling errors is hardly expecting perfection.. in my opinion.
Are you happy enough to get a half cooked cheeseburger..... you know where it was cooked enough to get the drift of it but the cook wasn't perfect so go ahead and eat it pink anyways.

Before you start accusing me of having “poor ethics” when it comes to my work perhaps you should take a look at how hard I work.
I normally put in 18 hour days, and yes, at the end of those long days my eyes may not be as sharp as they normally are.
I have noticed that the only time you come on this site to make a comment is to complain about a spelling error. Perhaps you would like to have the job as “editor”? Of course that means you will have to be available 24/7 ( as I am) to peruse the story after it is written. I would love to have someone take a quick look at the story with a fresh pair of eyes and put in (as was the case in this particular story) the missed “r” in the word arrested.
I also do not hide behind a pseudonym nor do I use a fake name for an e-mail account.
If you would like the job as our "spelling cop" (mistakes are, more often than not, a typo rather than a spelling error)I will pay you twice what I am paid for this job, which, by the way is nothing.

(and before you start complaining, my last name really is spelled as one word and a lower case "d")
Mr BS, If you don’t like a half cooked hamburger you don’t go back to that spot. If you don’t like what they write on opinion250, then I’m sure they won’t miss you. Get the drift.
Not going back to that spot after you die of salmonella doesn't cut it Billm. Which was really the drift of my rant. There can be consequences for the 'errors' that are made all too frequently by people that just don't seem to grasp the reality of it.
Ms Macdonald (with a little d)I was more using your 'error' (spelling or typing no matter) to point out a larger/societal laisse faire attitude which pervades all aspects of our lives than to attack your ethics directly.
I realize no one is likely to die as a result of your 'error' in this article but making excuses for ones 'errors' seems to mean some kind of absolution of responsibility to so many today.
There are some simple tools available to help an overworked underpaid (& under appreciated)person such as yourself with proofing your documents before submission. I know when I use MS Word spelling/typing and grammar errors literally glow in living color....
That being said when the cheeseburger cook makes a mistake someone could very well die and making excuses does little to bring them back.
Someone once said "we find excuses for doing things wrong" and "we find reasons for doing things right".
As long as we keep finding excuses we will never find a reason....

etc. etc. etc.......
