Prince George, B.C.- Attorney General Mike de Jong says today’s decision  by the B.C. Appeal Court to uphold the conviction of Robert “Willy” Pickton is “gratifying.”

In a split decision, the B.C. Court of Appeal ruled that while the trial judge made some errors in his final instructions to the jury, the errors were not significant enough to warrant a new trial.

Speaking from Ottawa, de Jong told reporters that although it is gratifying, we must not lose sight of the anguish of the families of the victims.  “This is a very tough day for a lot of families” said de Jong,  “I understand their frustration, and trials like this take their toll on everyone.”

The Attorney General says it will likely be late August before it is known if Pickton will appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court of Canada. Until all avenues in the legal system have been exhausted, de Jong says he will not say if there will be any sort of inquiry into the case of the missing women and how it was handled by investigators.

Gee whiz. What a country we have here. You kil one person and you get "life" in prison. You kill 26, you still get "life" in prison. No extra penalty when you deal in bulk, I guess.
I have never believed Willy Pickton acted alone.
He is a mental midget and I still think someone else was involved?
I think you're right Andy. I've thought that as well. I also think he should face another trial for the other victims... a short trial 1-2 days for the closure of family... the outcome makes no difference at this point, other than justice for the family members... If we have to pass a law for show trials for those already convicted with a life sentence (criminals like Pickton) as a result of a regular trial, then so be it. He needs all his crimes on record so closure can happen.
Undefiably guilty, hang him, after giving him twenty years to anguish to think about his actions.

Unfortunately, we have no capital punishment.

If he is not going to behave like a human, treat him like the beast that he is.
