Spruce Kings add Three 20 Year Olds

PRINCE GEORGE, BC - The Prince George Spruce Kings Junior ‘A’ Hockey Club of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) has acquired three twenty year old players for the 2009-10 season. New members of the Spruce Kings are goaltender Evan Smith, centre Matt Betker and winger Neil Chambers.
Evan Smith played for the Nanaimo Clippers for the past two seasons where he picked up a total of 38 wins in 66 games. Last season he finished with a goals against average of 3.12 and a save percentage of 89.10 while playing 2,174 minutes in 38 games. From Penticton, BC, Smith is 6’0” 180lbs and catches left
Matt Betker has a wealth of experience in both the Junior A and Major Junior levels. Betker played two seasons with the Portland Winterhawks and two with the Westside Warriors where he started last season before finishing with the Nanaimo Clippers. In 2008-09, Betker played a total of 53 games picking up 9 goals and 17 assists to go along with 77 minutes in penalties. Betker is a right handed centre, 6’01” and 185lbs from Chilliwack BC.
Smith and Betker were acquired in a deal with the Nanaimo Clippers in exchange for ’90 forward Konrad Sandor and ’91 forward Dan Correale. Sandor had been acquired earlier from the Langley Chiefs to complete a future considerations deal.
In a deal to complete future considerations with the Powell River Kings, the Spruce Kings also acquire Neil Chambers. Chambers played 114 games over the past two seasons with the Coastal Conference Kings scoring 19 goals and adding 13 assists. Chambers is from Whitehorse, Yukon and is a 5’ 11” 180 lbs right handed forward.
The Prince George Spruce Kings are looking forward to the arrival of the three players for the start of the team’s main camp on August 28, 2009. The Spruce Kings will start the regular season at home on Friday September 11, 2009 against the Westside Warriors.
