l-r Barb Dureau  holds Olympic torch with Athlete Anne-Marie Lefrancois

Prince George, B.C.- Meet Barb Dureau.  She is a student at UNBC studying  wildlife and fish biology, and she is the first person  to be chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in Prince Georege.

Dureau says she  entered the contest to become an Olympic Torch Bearer on  line "When I got the call in May saying I had won,  I  cried."

When a person enters the contest, they have to make a pledge to make Canada better place, she promised  to become more physicially active. "Once you make that one commitment, it's like dropping a pebble into a pond, the ripples reach out to friends and family."

Dureau says that one commitment has lead to her reviewing her eating habits, and hopes others will follow her lead, and that eventually it will reduce use of the health care system.

There is still an opportunity for people to enter the contest.  You can enter on line by clicking here.  The contest closes on July 15th.

Great. First I pay for her education (wildlife and fish biology? WTF? Guess she missed the memo about the lack of jobs in that field) and now I gotta pay for her to carry a torch.

Once the olympics ceased to be about amateur sport, they should have died.

I should hope that she revies her eating habits!! For her age, she looks much too thin.
