Prince George, B.C.-  There will be extra transit service for those attending the College of New Caledonia this fall.
Late last month, the Province announced additional funding for a 3500 service hour annual transit expansion in Prince George.

The focus of the service increases will be to add additional hours to new and existing routes servicing the College of New Caledonia. This will increase service for College students, high school students (which represent a large percentage of ridership) as well as commuters.

The City share of the operating costs associated with this service enhancement for 2009 is $42,000. It is anticipated that this can be covered with the increase in revenues attributed to the CNC UPass, increased ridership in general and reduced costs in the 2009/2010 Annual Operating Agreement.

Councillor Cameron Stolz  said he  wanted everyone to realize that come next year this will have  an on going operating cost of about $120 thousand dollars "So just so people are aware, that is about a point 2% increase."

Mayor Rogers says those costs can be reduced if more people use the service.

Council gave the enhancement unanimous approval.

ENHANCEMENT...a nice pleasant word that carries a cost everytime...so I guess more money on the old tax bill....
if the mayor wants more people to use the bus...maybe he should show us by example. That would make 5 people on a 50 passenger bus.

Is that efficient?
