Williams Lake, B.C.- A small fire just east of Mahood Lake developed Sunday evening as the result of a thunderstorm which passed through the area.

The fire is estimated at 10 hectares in size, and is burning in slash. Air tankers actioned the fire on Sunday. Two helicopters are now on site assisting 40 firefighters, while three pieces of heavy machinery are working to create guards around the perimeter. This fire is not posing a threat to any structures, or communities.

The fire danger rating within the Cariboo is currently moderate in the southern Cariboo stretching from Tatlayoko Lake to 100 Mile House and low everywhere else.  The Fire Centre would like to remind the public that human-caused fires divert vital resources from naturally occurring fires, and therefore the public should use extreme caution with campfires and any other sources of heat.
