Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George Public Library is moving forward in it’s expansion plan.
In delivering its annual report to Prince George City Council, the Board of trustees says the design, conceptual and engineering studies are complete and the next step will be to develop timelines for expansion, detailed costing and architectural drawings.
The library will launch a fundraising company to raise dollars for the amenities of the building which are typically about 25% of the cost. The Board is committed to having any expansion conform to LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Standard.
The library is also half way through the process of changing to new library cards. The new card has a cleaner look and is paired with a smaller version that can go on our key ring. There are about 50 thousand cards to be changed during the two year program.
The library had revenues of just over $4.2 million dollars last year, and expenditures of just over $4.1 million.
Some library facts presented:
• During April 8 to 20, 2009, a total of 2,584 books were checked out of the library for the Harlem Globetrotters draw.
• In 2008, 47,901 people held active Prince George Public Library cards- that’s 67% of the population
• During 2008, a total of 411,229 people visited the library.
The Library Board is in the process of looking for avenues for grants to fund parts of the building that would not normally be covered by infrastructure funding programs.
