West Kelowna, B.C.- Later this morning, 6,000 people forced from their Glenrosa homes on the weekend, will be allowed to return to their residences. Those with homes north of Glenmore Road and North of Powers Creek will be allowed back at 8 this morning. They will however remain on evacuation alert and could be forced out again should conditions change.
The Emergency Services reception Centre has been moved out of Royal LePage Place and moved to Mt. Boucherie Secondary School. Those who have been forced from their homes and are in need of vouchers for accommodation, food or clothing, have to register in person.
Other assistance efforts include: a special Fire Relief Trust Fund that has been established by the District of West Kelowna at the Interior Savings Credit Union and several hotels in the Sun Peaks resort area near Kamloops are offering temporary accommodation to those who have been displaced. Families wishing to take advantage of the complimentary accommodation are asked to call Sun Peaks at 1-800-807-3257 between 9:00 am and 5 p.m.
There is also some good news on the highways as highway 97 and 97C will both be reopening for traffic at 8 this morning.
