Having been down in Kelowna when the fires broke out and seeing the devastation they caused, not to mention all the people who had to leave their homes, I fail to see any humor in this cartoon.

It's an editorial cartoon; it's not meant to be humourous. It's an artist's interpretation of one of the prominent events of the day.

PG will rue the day we didn't build a ring road... for industrial expansion primarily, but also as a valuable fire break as a very important side aspect protecting PG from interface situation likely to be caused by the pine beetle infestation.

Hwy 97 is 4 lanes in through the Glenrosa area, and it didn't stop the fire... a road doesn't necessarily mean a fire break.
