West Kelowna, B.C.- The wildfire at Terrace Mountain, which is estimated at 4000 hectares, is now 20 percent contained.
Yesterday, cooler weather and a small amount of precipitation aided BC Forest Service fire suppression personnel in their efforts to build both hand and machine guard around the fire. Resources on site included 175 fire fighters, helicopters and heavy equipment. An additional 56 fire fighters and four engines worked to protect homes with the Structural Protection Units from the Office of the Fire Commissioner.
Six amphibious aircraft have also been brought in from Alberta and will be stationed at the Kelowna Airport. These water bombers will be available to the Terrace Mountain fire if required.
The public is urged to remain off of the roads in the fire area so fire crews can get quicker, safer access.
Evacuation Orders have been issued for the communities in the area of the fire, while other communities remain on Evacuation Alert. For more information please contact the Emergency Operations Centre at 1-250-469-8490.
Both the Glenrosa and Rose Valley fires are now 100 percent contained due to the hard work of both fire department and BC Forest Service fire suppression personnel. They are now considered under control.
Although the Evacuation Orders have been rescinded for the areas around the Rose Valley and Glenrosa fires, Evacuation Alerts remain in place, and for more information please contact the Emergency Operations Centre.
