Prince George B.C. – Fast work from the Prince George Fire Rescue crews saved more than $5 million in CN locomotives and a building this morning at the BCR site.
The fire was reported about 3 this morning in the roof of the locomotive maintenance shop on Industrial Way.
Two Fire trucks, two water tenders the ladder truck and the rescue unit with 15 firefighters responded. When they arrived they found smoke and flames shooting through the roof.
While fire crews located and attacked the flames, CN staff worked under the guidance of the incident commander to remove several locomotives that were inside the structure.
Fire crews were able to open the roof around an exhaust fan which was the source of the blaze. The fan’s motor had ignited a large build up of carbon inside the fan.
The fire was knocked down quickly and damage was restricted to the exhaust fan structure and surrounding roof, and some water damage in the adjacent office and washroom areas. Damage is estimated to be about $50 thousand dollars.
