Prince George, B.C.- Plenty of people in Prince George found the best way to beat the heat on the weekend was to head to the water.
There were floaters, and boaters, kayakers, and canoers, waders and swimmers, all taking a dip to keep cool.
The boat launch on River Road was packed with people coming and going, and police checks. Speed Watch was on hand and checked more than 350 vehicles  that entered Wilkins Park. Random Police checks of  vehicles resulted in 7 tickets and 5 liquor seizures. Officers were also checking boat registration numbers, and safety gear.
Some who live along the river and  those who  were walking along the  river are complaining about the littering habits of the floaters. “The number of beer cans tossed in the river is disgusting” says one resident.
Some boaters say they were aware of  a police presence on the weekend.  Police say there were no major incidents, however 2 adult females missed their exit point on the  Nechako and were  found on the bank  several miles downstream on the Fraser River.

Can someone tell me where this spot is.
Looks like a nice place to go for a swim
The one at the bottom looks like Cottonwood Island Park.
We were on the water Sunday, dodging hundreds of float people, most of whom gave or returned a friendly wave. In three hours, from the Island Cache to Whitemud rapids and back, we saw exactly one empty beverage bottle floating in the river. Other than a lack of hats and pfd's, I thought the float people were behaving responsibly.
metalman.
Have a good time. &
Please remove your garbage.
I was at Miworth and watched as hundreds of people drifted by. I only saw 4 pfds in the 4 hours I was there; including the boat people!

And of course some one had to take out the jet boat in that mess? Were the non-power boaters waving one finger at a time?
I only ever saw friendly waves on the Nechako this weekend, everyone I saw was equally willing to share the river with anyone else. Really great to see people of all types enjoying one of the only real recreation treasures we have right in town.

There's actually not much litter on the river all considered, put 325 people in one of the parks for a day and see what's left behind.
Sorry, that should say people from 320 vehicles, not 325 people...
15 to 20 years ago, the jetboats always slowed down when encountering tubes and rafts and kayaks and swimmers. We did the same yesterday but were often just about rearended by jetters who swerved around us and roared around us passing by tubes with about 20 ft to spare! Is this the new river etiquette? If it is, I'll stay on the Parsnip !
