Dr. Charles Jago is the newly appointed Chair of the Mayor's Task Force

Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley has made good on his election promise...

Kinsley has announced the formation of a Mayor's Task Force on Air Quality Improvement to be chaired by UNBC President, Dr. Charles Jago.

The Mayor says, "The group will provide recommendations on what has been done to date, look at what other jurisdictions are doing, review the constraints we're dealing with, here in Prince George, and they'll determine what actions are needed to reduce emissions sources in order to improve our air quality."

The group will include representatives from the City, Regional District, the province, industry, Northern Health and others.

Kinsley made the announcement in front of a packed Chambers during his inaugural address.  In addition to the task force, he went on to declare Council's plans to formalize its relationships with youth and seniors in the city.

The Mayor has asked 26-year-old Ryan Yorston to chair a Council Committee on Youth.  Yorston narrowly missed being elected to City Council during his first run in the November 19th election.  He finished 9th out of 25 candidates, with more than 5,000 votes.

It's the Mayor's hope that the group, "Will harness the energy and creativity of Prince George youth to help bring improvement to our community."

And the President of the Prince George Council of Seniors, Bob D'Auray, has been named Chair of the Council Advisory Committee on Seniors Issues.

Right on! Maybe now someone can do something about wood burning that is nothing but a nuisance and happens every day incuding summer months. If anyone has read about the effects of wood smoke they would've banned it long before cigarettes.
Good idea. We can blame it all on the wood burning residents and road dust. That way there will be no mention of pulp mills, chemical plants and other industry polluting the bowl area. As a side benifit it may even fool people into believing that something is being done about our air quality. Lets get after industry as the biggest polluters. Oh, yes, they fight back and are hard to nail down so we'll just go after those trying to cope with high heating bills. I wonder if the governments could find a way to tax wood for burning that they would be going the wood heating population? Untill industry cleans up it's act I suspect that Prince George will continue to have one of the highest air pollutions in the nation
And off we go with the
SAME OLD-SAME OLD!!!
This is just too stupid to deserve any type of mention.
How many years have these studies been taking place?
How many solutions have been arrived at??
How many changes have taken place???
And the pollution problem remains unsolvable!!!
I do not think Jago will be the rocket scientist to magically improve the air quality in Prince George.
Do the taxpayers pay for these so called studies and committees???
Oh well, Prince George is losing residents, so surely the pollution rate will drop. Must have had some of those people secretly burning wood in fireplaces!!!
What a "sorry" city to live in.
Never give up gypsy, you only have to have eyes to know it is the pulp mill.
