Prince George, BC - The 16th Western Hockey League regular season for the Prince George Cougars will commence Friday, September 18 against the Spokane Chiefs and conclude Saturday, March 13 at Kelowna against the Rockets.
The Cougars 72-game slate was constructed at meetings in Kelowna this week, with the schedule still tentative and subject to change. The Cougars will play the majority of their home games on Friday and Saturday nights, with 26 of the Cats 36 dates at CN Centre on those two nights.
The Cougars longest home-stand of the season will be from January 13 to January 27, when the club plays seven consecutive games in Prince George. The season’s longest road trip will be seven games when the Cougars start in Kelowna November 4, then head to Saskatchewan and Manitoba to face the six Eastern Division clubs, ending November 14.
Cougar fans will see three teams from the Central Division that did not come to Prince George last year: Lethbridge Hurricanes, October 2 & 3; Kootenay Ice, December 4; and Medicine Hat Tigers, January 26 & 27. The Cougars will reach the mid-way point of the season on December 29 in Chilliwack, with 20 games at CN Centre in the second half of the year.
The Western Hockey League playoffs begin March 19. The official WHL schedule will be released August 10.
