Kamloops Fire Centre's Summer A Hot One
By 250 News
KAMLOOPS - So far this season, the Kamloops Fire Centre has responded to more than 700 wildfires, of which 460 have been lightning-caused.
Quieter fire behaviour has been observed on the Momich Lake wildfires, the largest of which is estimated at 1300 hectares and is 50 percent contained. Resources on site include 66 firefighters, nine helicopters and 18 pieces of heavy equipment.
The Hell Creek wildfire, in the Yalakom Valley, is estimated at 750 hectares in size and fire behaviour was very aggressive yesterday afternoon. The Evacuation Order remains in place for the Yalakom Valley. For more information please contact the Squamish Lillooet Regional District at 1-866-417-4132.
The majority of the Kamloops Fire Centre is in a high to extreme fire danger rating. All open burning, including campfires, remains prohibited at this time. British Columbians are being asked to voluntarily restrict back country activities, as person-caused wildfires require resources critical for naturally occurring lightning fires.
Slightly cooler temperatures and scattered showers are forecast for the coming days, however, thunderstorms and gusting winds are likely to keep firefighters extremely busy throughout the fire centre.
