Fort Nelson, B.C. – A piece of the Federal Government’s $12 billion infrastructure pie has been dished up for the B.C. portion of the Alaska Highway.

$6.7 million from the fund will go towards three major repair and rehabilitation projects for the province’s section of that roadway.

Three companies were successful in submitting the lowest qualified bids in response to public tender calls for these three projects.

  • Peter's Bros. Construction Ltd. of Penticton, B.C., was awarded a $3,251,398 contract to undertake 15 kilometres of asphalt paving work south of Fort Nelson.
  • Brentwood Enterprises Ltd. of Kamloops, B.C., was the successful bidder for a $1,452,043 contract to improve an intersection and stabilize a section of the Highway about 125 kilometres north of Fort St. John.
  • A $2,046,780 contract to repair the deck surfaces of eight bridges on the Alaska Highway was awarded to ConCreate USL Ltd. of Crossfield, Alberta.

These projects are scheduled to be completed in October 2009.

The Government of Canada is investing $12 billion in new infrastructure funding for roads, bridges, broadband Internet access, electronic health records, laboratories and border crossings across Canada.

It would be nice to see some money put into highway #37 as well... it has huge tourism potential and its so close to being a completed highway....
If they wanted to build the Alaska Highway tomorrow, it would never happen. My, how the world has changed.
That goes for much of the infrastructure that we enjoy today (e.g. Hydro lines, pipelines, etc.)
