Prince George, B.C.- City Council  will offer a letter of a support for a new initiative to replace the former “Forest Expo.”   Roy Nagel of the Central Interior Logging Association  is hopeful of developing an annual Resources Expo.

Nagel , along with co-chair Mary Anne Arcand, says they propose to develop a new 12 member board made up of reps actively involved in different sectors of resource based industry such as forestry, oil and gas, alternative energy, mining and human resources.   "We just felt it was time to expand and broaden forest expo to be a resources expo" says Arcand.

The sectors  share common issues such as:
  • Relationships with First Nations,
  • the land base,
  • climate change and the environment,
  • safety and transportation and
  • worker shortages.

Nagel says the first show will be held June 3rd to 5th of next year  "We  see this as a catalyst for economic  activity" says Nagel "Prince George is ideally situated to be the hub to provide all the services needed by different sectors."

Arcand says  it's time to walk the talk, "We're always talking about Prince George being the hub of the north,  well now it's time to say let's prove it."

We need to prove we are the hub of the North? Why? Can't we just be it?

Do we need to prove that we are the capital of the North? Like, do we need a parliament building to prove that? Of course not. We just say we are and that is that! Does anyone really care other than the odd tourist who asks at the concierge's desk where the parliament buildings are?

We are the hub of the north. Do you not have to drive through PG to get to Rupert by car from Vancouver? I suppose one could drive via Alberta and the Alaska Hwy and back down 37. That would be the rim road. LOL
