Ft. St John, B.C.- The cause of Sunday’s fire in Ft. St. John has been narrowed down to a piece of equipment in the office area of Rosenau Transport.
Fire Chief Fred Burrows says as this point, it would appear the fire was sparked by an equipment failure “We believe we have the area of origin, and the fire was accidental.” Burrows says the equipment failure was in the office area, not in the shop.
Sunday’s fire levelled the building that was home to Rosenau Transport and Unified Valve. There were dozens of containers on site containing flammables which exploded and sent fire balls into the night sky. The neighbouring Peace Country mobile home park was evacuated because of the proximity to the flames, heat and thick black columns of smoke.
While the damage estimate has not been finalized, Chief Burrows says it is safe to say the blaze caused millions of dollars in damage.
