A Crane places one half of a portable on the Giscome Elementry School site.
Giscome , B.C. – The portables that will be home to students attending Giscome school this fall, are being put in place.
The move to portables was viewed as the only viable alternative once School District 57 deemed the existing building unsafe for the new school year.

A study on the school’s condition revealed issues with wood rot, mould, and a failed septic system. With the existing building closed because of health and safety concerns, the School District wrestled with what to do for the new school year. Bussing students was ruled unacceptable as it would mean trips of nearly two hours each way for some students.
The portables placed on site are a temporary solution while the community works with the School District and Province to develop a community learning centre that would be a multi purpose facility that could meet a variety of community needs.
