Prince George, B.C.- A fire in the basement of a ground floor suite of the Park Village condos on First Avenue last night was deliberately set.
RCMP say they were initially called to the fire just before midnight to assist in the evacuation of the building. A basement suite was engulfed in flames. Several residents of the building were forced from their homes until firefighters could douse the flames.
During the evacuation, Police were advised by a witness, that an adult male had been seen near the basement suite window just before the fire broke out. The male was identified in the crowd and taken into custody. Numerous charges are expected.
Fifteen firefighters from three halls encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a ground floor unit. Working fire alarms are credited with alerting apartment residents to the danger.
The lone occupant of the fire-involved unit, who was home at the time, escaped without injury.

While damage to the apartment is extensive, adjoining apartments only sustained minor smoke damage. The damage from the fire is extimated to be in the $250 thousand dollar range.

Wow. Lighting a building on fire then hanging around to watch it burn. Arsonists are really scary.
A lot of lives were at stake. Hope he is dealt with in a very serious manner.
Yeah freaky people for sure. Someone like that we got to keep a very close eye on. They are like terrorist.
I don't think this is just a case of an arsonist. Arson is the result but the motive is deeper than to watch something burn.
"Hope he is dealt with in a very serious manner."

We all do, but it is very unlikely that this will happen. Of course, one can still hope and one day actually get a surprise.
Burn his fingers so he learns that playing with fire is not nice. He probably has a mental age of 3 or 4.
Sounds like he had a vendetta against the guy in the apartment and endangered the whole building as a result. This kind of intentional crime involving innocent peoples homes should be punished severely.
