WILLIAMS LAKE –More accurate mapping and fire growth caused an increase in the estimated size of the Kelly Creek fire.

GPS mapping was conducted on the Kelly Creek Fire early this morning.  Now estimated at 10, 000 hectares, this fire has grown to the east towards the Marble Range.  Today, there are almost 50 fire fighters on site, with more arriving throughout the afternoon.  Heavy machinery and helicopters are assisting in the fire suppression, building and reinforcing fire guards.  A Type One Incident Management Team is en route to the fire.

Today a cold front is expected to move through the Kelly Creek area, causing variable gusty winds up to 40 kilometres per hour.  Forest Service personnel will continue to monitor the weather throughout the day.

Smoke and ash from this fire is visible to surrounding communities.
