Prince George, B.C. – Provincial New Democrat leader Carole James continues her fight to have the Harmonized Sales Tax plan rejected. “This is going to touch people from their hair cuts to their Tim Hortons coffee.”
Speaking on the “Meisner” program on CFISFM this morning, James says the provincial budget which will be delivered tomorrow, should include a review of planned pay hikes to MLAs “I’m not holding my breath, but that is one of the places they could find savings.”
Ontario is also moving to a Harmonized Sales Tax “There is a major campaign against the tax going on there as well” says James, but she adds the major activity is taking place in B.C. “People are not just angry with the tax, but with the way it was brought in, they think they were lied to.”
James says many people believe the real reason for the introduction of the HST is because the government spent too much money on the Olympics. She says B.C. has become a divided province with lines being drawn between urban and rural and have and have nots.
