The exhibit which opens today, details the “birth” of Mr. P.G. complete with schematic drawings ( shown at right) for his construction to the various marketing items from Spruce Bucks to a stuffed toy.
The initial idea for Mr. P.G. came from former Mayor, the late Harold Moffat. In previous interviews, Moffat said the initial figure was built in 1960 and was part of a parade float.
Through the years, Mr. P.G. has had some adventures. A replica, built by the Prince George Lions Club, was taken to Lions’ conventions and “loaned” to other clubs. Some time in 1967, the local Lions Club lost track of the “mini” version. It wasn’t until October of 1977 that Nelda Loveng spotted the local mini mascot in a story in the Edinburgh Evening News. Contact was made, and the mini Mr. P.G. (now wearing a tin kilt and sporran) made his way home.

What does a Scottish Mr. P.G. wear under his kilt? At left, museum Curator Bob Campbell laughs as he lifts the sporran to reveal a spigot for dispensing beer!

Museum Curator Bob Campbell says parts of the exhibit still need some details, for instance there is the matter of the cartoon shown at right .
The cartoon shows Mr. P.G. burning a cross which bears the name of Hedy Fry. Fry is the federal M.P. who made the comment a few years back that when it comes to racism, “They are burning crosses on lawns in Prince George as we speak.” “We don’t know who drew the cartoon,” says Campbell, “If anyone knows we would sure like to get the details.”
The Mr.P.G. which stands at the tourism facility at the junction of highways 16 and 97 was built at a costof$6,700. He is also the subject of a new stamp by Canada Post, one of four in the first series of Canadian community land marks.
The items on exhibit were donated for the display which is on now until early 2011.
He's a stamp, was a stuffed toy and was even depicted as having a "Missus"! You can see the full Mr. P.G. story at Exploration Place.

The burning cross blasphemy is not one of them. That was a disgrace to Hedi Fry, and the liberal party of Canada, and to the people that vote for her in her riding even after that pure hate induced racist comment made by Hedi Fry. CNC I think should be shamed for having a mural in her honor in their atrium.
